PRO AUDIO LIMITER
Audio Limiter in professional audio is used to protect the loudspeaker from overdrive which ultimately causes the woofer’s and tweeter’s coil to burn and fail.
1. Determine the power rating of the Loudspeaker and insert the value into “Limiter Calculator’s Spk Power”.
2. Insert the resistance of the loudspeaker system into “Limiter Calculator’s Spk Impedance”. Most common value is pro audio is 8 ohm and 4 ohm (2 loudspeakers in daisy chain
mode)
3. Insert you amplifier gain or amplifier sensitivity into “Limiter Calculator’s Amp Gain”. Most common gain or sensitivity in the industry is 26 dB, 32 dB and 36 dB. For
0.775V, please convert to dB using the Amp Gain Calculator. Instructions at below.
4. Press “Calculate Limiter” and the value of Amp Out (Vrms), Amp Out (dBu) and Suggested Limiter Threshold (dBu). Sug. Lim Threshold is the value to be set into the limiter
setting.
5. To check the sug. Lim. Threshold, set the same value into Limit Threshold, it will calculate the Amp Out (Vrms), Amp Out (dBu) and Amp Power. This can be compare with the
calculated value above to crosscheck the value.
p/s
Some product in market limiter threshold is in dBFS. You need to convert from dBu (calculated in this app) to dBFS. E.g. Behringer DCX-2496 0 dBFS is equivalent to +22dBu. This
mean a calculated -1 dBu is -1-22 = -23 dBFS.
PRO AUDIO AMP GAIN CALCULATOR \r\n \r\n
1. Insert the amplifier power rating.
2. Insert the load (loudspeaker) of the amplifier.
3. In the industry there is various type of amp gain standard. E.g 0.775V, 1.4V, and 40x.
4. For Voltage (V) standard, insert the value into In Level Clip. The Amp Gain in dBu is calculated. The Amp Gain (dBu) will be inserted into “Limiter Calculator’s Amp
Gain”.
5. For Times (x), insert value into Amp Gain (x) and the Amp Gain in dBu is calculated. The Amp Gain (dBu) will be inserted into “Limiter Calculator’s Amp Gain”.
